Quarry tunnel, Carrara

Darkness is welcome sometimes. On this day it was because in darkness I found enough light to look and make these photographs inside a mountain where marble is quarried in Carrara. Rich with color and texture and pattern and a wealth of detail. Growing up my parents had a book of Hartung's abstract pieces and through these photographs I understood the meditative quality of the artist's work.
